Within the Diocese of Austin and the other Roman Catholic Dioceses of Texas, the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, is transferred to the Seventh Sunday of Easter. The Thursday prior is now, celebrated as Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter.
In 1998, the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (now the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops), received permission from the Holy See, in accordance with Canon 1246 §2, to allow each ecclesiastical province to determine whether to transfer, the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord to the Seventh Sunday of Easter. At that time, all the Roman Catholic dioceses in Texas were part of the province of San Antonio. The bishops of the province voted to transfer the solemnity to the Seventh Sunday of Easter for the benefit of the faithful.
