(Fredron) DeKarlos Blackmon has served as the Secretariat Director of Life, Charity and Justice since 2015. He came to the position after not only having served in parochial and education ministry in the Diocese of Birmingham, but also having served as the 16th Supreme Knight, chief executive officer and chairman of the Board of the Knights of Peter Claver and president of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights.
He serves as the director of Social Concerns, diocesan director of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, and coordinator of Black Ministry. In addition to his diocesan responsibilities, he serves on many boards. He has served as a consultant to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee for Cultural Diversity for African American Affairs. Over the years, he has been actively involved in pastoral ministry, outreach, developing youth and promoting civic improvement. DeKarlos holds paramount the responsibility to bring faith into the public square — standing arduously for the hard right as opposed to the easy wrong. DeKarlos presents workshops on catechesis, liturgy, pastoral ministry, Catholic education and leadership throughout the country. He has taught in the Institute for Black Catholic Studies at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans.

Luisa is working diligently to build a culture of life by promoting the dignity of the human person from conception to natural death. She directs and implements the USCCB Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities; coordinates the education and instruction of Catholics and the general public on life issues; and oversees diocesan programs, initiatives and resources related to the ongoing catechesis and spiritual formation for sacramental marriage and Christian family living. Luisa has spent much of her life heavily involved in helping the Catholic community. She has earned multiple educational degrees including a master's in Theology from St. Mary's University in San Antonio. She is a clinical psychologist. |

Deacon Tim was ordained as a permanent deacon of the Diocese of Austin in 2010 after earning a degee in Pastoral Theology from The University of St. Thomas School of Theology at St. Mary’s Seminary. In 2011, Deacon Tim formed a ministry team that visits with and ministers to women incarcerated at the Mountain View Unit in Gatesville, Texas. In this role, he serves the general population as well as those in protective custody and on death row. Deacon Tim has been actively involved with not only prison ministry, but also with adult formation, catechesis, youth ministry, the Knights of Columbus and grief ministry. He is a U.S. Army Veteran and worked as a government contractor for 30 years at Fort Hood, Texas. |

Sue serves as coordinator of Life, Charity and Justice with the responsibility for project management and principally supporting the activities of Life, Marriage and Family; Restorative Justice and Advocacy; and Hispanic Ministry. The wealth of knowledge Sue brings to the work of Life, Charity and Justice is invaluable to the mission to all of us “to know Christ better and to make Him better known.” Sue is a native Texan and resides in Bastrop. She is an active parishioner of Ascension Parish in Bastrop. The mother of three sons and one daughter, she enjoys spending time with her family and cooking. |

Yolanda Sanchez assists the director of Life, Charity and Justice with supporting the activities and services of Life, Marriage, and Family, Missions, Restorative Justice, Hispanic Ministry and Black Ministry. She coordinates the efforts, policies and procedures for the promotion of Natural Family Planning (NFP) and collaborates with the apostolates associated with Black Catholics, Aging and Disabilities, and Missions and Discipleship. Yolanda works diligently to pass on the faith in her work as a phenomenal catechist. The work of Life, Charity and Justice is enriched by Yolanda's presence and ministry in the Diocese of Austin. |
