My Dearest Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot, at this moment, receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You
as if You were already there
and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me
to be separated from You. Amen.
On March 17, Bishop Vasquez decreed that all Masses with the physical participation of the faithful are canceled and the faithful are dispensed from the Sunday obligation English \ Spanish. However, to the best of your ability, the faithful are encouraged to spend time in prayer, giving thanks to God and praying for the needs of the world and your needs. Consider the following:
"The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor. Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin" (CCC 2181, emphasis added).
What Should I Do If I Cannot Attend Mass?
¿Qué Debo Hacer Si No Puedo Asistir a Misa?
Because of the tangible and enduring real presence of Jesus Christ In the Eucharist, it is "unlike any other sacrament. The mystery [of communion] is so perfect that it brings us to the heights of every good thing: Here is the ultimate goal of every human desire, because here we attain God and God joins himself to us in the most perfect union."
Spiritual Communion is an expression of one’s passionate desire to receive Jesus in the Eucharist and is a loving embrace as though one had already received Him. It is used by many as a preparation for Mass and is also used by individuals who cannot receive Holy Communion. For some, Spiritual Communion has become part of their frequent daily prayer. when one is unable to receive the Blessed Sacrament in Holy Communion.
