To decrease the probability of operational risks leading to new claims or losses, the Office of Risk Management proactively shares with our parishes, Catholic schools, and other institutions the evolving best practices drawn from the Diocese of Austin’s—as well as other dioceses in the United States’—prior experience with those same risks.
Risk management services address activities both before and after an incident occurs. Preparedness and avoidance services include i) consolidating the purchase of insurance for the Diocese’s many interests, ii) researching and publishing emergency management guidelines, iii) assisting locations to secure special events insurance, iv) serving as a networking hub for diocesan employees on topics related to operational risks, and vi) innovating, documenting, and disseminating relevant policies and procedures. Resolution and settlement services include i) rapid response to each new accident report, ii) dedicated assistance with claims handling involving insurance adjusters, claims administrators, contractors, or subrogation parties, and iii) strategic guidance for negotiating settlements. These services will expand over time and in response to emerging needs.
