One of the most amazing miracles, captured only in the Gospel of John, is the raising of Lazarus from the dead. Despite being entombed for four days, Jesus summons Lazarus who emerges bound by burial cloths.
This miracle is a foreshadowing of Jesus’ own resurrection. Even more profound, Jesus’ call to Lazarus is his call to us -- inviting us to rise from our tomb and find life with him.
In our lives there are moments when, like Martha, we question Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” Jesus helps Martha grow in her faith and she recognizes him as the Lord of life. She expresses her complete faith in Christ and says, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world.”
As we prepare to enter Holy Week, may we experience Jesus Christ as our resurrection and our life.
