Today, in churches around the world, we unite in commemorating the Passion and Death of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we listen to the Gospel of John, we hear the familiar passage of Peter, who is weak and afraid, deny Christ. Due to the human condition we, too, may be tempted to deny Christ. Yet, our Lord, in his profound mercy, called on Peter to lead his sheep. Christ loves us so much that, just like he forgave Peter, he is ready to forgive us and show us his mercy.
Tomorrow night, the Church celebrates the Easter Vigil. As the darkness is dispelled by the light of the Easter candle, we welcome the Elect who join the Catholic Church. We rejoice with them and their families as they receive the Sacraments of Initiation. On this most sacred night, the Church rejoices in the light of the Risen Lord who was victorious over death!
Brothers and sisters – may the holy season of Easter be a time to experience a new life in Christ!
