The month of April was filled with the joys of Easter. Together we experienced Christ’s great victory over death and his invitation to journey with him and encounter his Mystical Body in the breaking of bread.
In the Diocese of Austin, we continue to celebrate with those who receive the gift of the Holy Spirit through the Sacrament of Confirmation. Each year, we welcome about 5,000 confirmands throughout our diocese – young men and women ready to confirm their baptismal commitment and be fully initiated into the Church to carry forth the mission of Christ.
The month of May is marked in part by the celebration of Mother’s Day in Latin America and the United States. On this day, we are reminded of the precious gift of life that we receive from our mothers. Let us pray for our mothers, living and deceased, and thank them for their love and respect for life.
Later this month I will ordain Matthew Jewell to the Transitional Diaconate. On that day, after years of seminary formation, Matthew will be consecrated through the laying on of hands and invoking the Holy Spirit. It is a day of great joy for the Diocese of Austin, for Matthew, his parents and those who helped in his formation.
For many young people, this month marks the end of the school year. Let us pray especially for our youth transitioning from high school to the next chapter of their lives. May they always remain faithful to their baptismal promises as they face decisions and challenges.
May we continue to experience the joys of this Easter season filled with the presence of our Lord knowing that his victory over death is his invitation to join him always.
