Did you know that you can be certified in youth ministry by the Diocese of Austin? This certification pairs the Youth Ministry Essentials courses with theological and practical courses to ensure a comprehensive training in the practice of youth ministry. The certification is offered through the Ministry Formation Program from the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis. Certification is broken down into three parts. The courses and parts may be taken in any order. Many start with Part 3, the Youth Ministry Essentials.
Part 1 -- Basic Teachings | The Basic Teachings of the Catholic Faith Program offers a general introduction to the theological principles found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This program serves as the first step in basic adult formation for all ministry groups that seek evangelization and catechetical certification. The coursework includes: Introduction to Scripture, Creed, Liturgy and Sacraments, Christian Morality and Prayer and Spirituality. Classes are offered continuously throughout the diocese at various locations and times.
Part 2 -- Methodology | These courses focus on methodology and general catechetical practices needed to serve and minister to the adolescent community and empower adults who are beginning and continuing their ministry to adolescents. Registration for these classess and the full list of methodological courses offered by the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis can be found here.
Part 3 -- Youth Ministry Essentials | These youth ministry-specific courses will focus on the vision of youth ministry, including programming, prayer and worship and social mission.
