Liturgical Colors

Colors symbolize various meanings in the liturgy. The clergy’s vestments and altar cloths help remember us of the season of the church year or the significance of the feast day being celebrated. White is used during Christmas and Easter seasons and on special feast days. Red is used on Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Pentecost, celebrations of the Passion and the feasts of the apostles, evangelists and martyrs. Green is ordinary time which is a few weeks in January and February, and then through the summer and fall.. Violet is used during Advent and Lent (except on the third Sunday of Advent, rose vestments symbolize Gaudete Sunday)
