What is World Youth Day?
World Youth Day began in the early 1980’s with an invitation from John Paul II inviting young people to attend an International Jubilee of Youth in St. Peter's Square. This event has grown to be the single largest, international gathering of young people the world has ever seen. WYD attracts pilgrims from some 200 nations who gather to celebrate their faith in the Catholic Church. World Youth Day 2011 will be hosted in Madrid, Spain. The theme for WYD 2011 is “Rooted and Built Up in Jesus Christ, Firm in the Faith” (Col 2:7). The 2011 theme celebrates the strength the Church has when its members are firmly connected to Jesus Christ.
What is a Pilgrimage?
Made since the early church, a pilgrimage is a spiritual journey to a sacred place in which one joyfully responds “yes” to God’s invitation. A pilgrimage requires a commitment to leave one’s problems behind and follow the desire of the heart in devotion, penance, or thanksgiving, returning home transformed by the special graces received.

¿Qué es la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud?
La Jornada Mundial de la Juventud (JMJ) comenzó a principios de 1980. En esa ocasión el Santo Padre Juan Pablo II hizo una invitación a la juventud del mundo para participar en el Jubileo Internacional de Jóvenes en la Plaza de San Pedro. Este evento se ha convertido en la reunión más grande de jóvenes que el mundo haya experimentado. La JMJ atrae a peregrinos de más de 200 naciones quienes se reúnen para celebrar su Fe en la Iglesia Católica. La Jornada Mundial de la Juventud 2011 tiene como sede Madrid, España. El tema para la JMJ 2011 es: “Arraigados y Edificados en Cristo, Firmes en la Fe” (Col 2,7). El tema del 2011 celebra la fuerza que la Iglesia tiene cuando sus miembros están firmemente conectados a Jesucristo.
¿Qué es una Peregrinación?
Desde los inicios de la Iglesia, una peregrinación es una riaje espiritual a un lugar sagrado en el que uno responde gozosamente con un “si” a la invitación de Dios. Una peregrinación requiere un compromiso de dejar nuestros problemas atrás y seguir el deseo del corazón con un espíritu de devoción, penitencia o agradecimiento, regresando a casa transformado por la gracia especial recibida.
