Job Description: 

To create and maintain a youth ministry unique to the needs of Saint John Vianney parishioners in compliance with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry, which calls for comprehensive youth ministry to include: Advocacy, Catechesis, Community Life, Evangelization, Justice and Service, Pastoral Care, Leadership Development, and Prayer and Worship.


• Work cohesively with church staff members and ministries to incorporate youth into all aspects of parish life
• Maintain and stay within a specified budget
• Recruit, train, work with, and develop an adult leadership team to help facilitate and chaperone youth events
• Ensure all adults and chaperones are aware of and in compliance with diocesan policies and procedures
• Inform parishioners of youth ministry activities via multiple communication outlets
• Meet with youth on Sundays or other designated days for supplemental youth meetings
• Meet with adults and youth regularly to plan Sunday gatherings
• Plan and organize mission trips, service projects, retreats and social events for youth
• Organize diocesan youth conferences
• Work collaboratively with other parishes and the Diocese of Austin to offer youth varying opportunities in ministry
• Fundraising leadership for DCYC, Steubenville, Catholic HEART Workcamp and any other services or scholarship needs
• Provide a welcoming, safe place for youth to relate to, identify with, learn about, understand and practice Catholicism
• Provide a ministry that is specific to the developmental needs of adolescents
• Keep continually apprised on youth ministry policies and procedures set forth at the national and diocesan levels
• Participate in diocesan leadership and development for youth ministers
• Organize and facilitate Religious Education for youth
• Recruit Catechists for Youth Religious Education
• Direct sacramental preparation and administrative needs for Confirmation
• Confirmation class instructor for youth preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation
• Collaborator and advisor for the Faith Formation Committee
• Maintain annual calendar of events for Youth Ministry
• Other duties as assigned by the Pastor

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Formal training in the Catholic theology, religious education and/or catechesis, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Must be able to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends
• Three years of catechetical or youth ministry, paid experience preferred
• Must be willing to comply with Diocesan policies including the Ethics and Integrity in Ministry policies
• Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
