The Friday E-Pistle (April 8, 2016)

A message from Bishop Vásquez

Amoris Laetitia

Today the Holy Father released his Apostolic Exhortation, Amoris Laetitia, “The Joy of Love: On Love in the Family.”  We are grateful to Pope Francis for the wisdom he offers in this pastoral teaching. I encourage our priests, deacons, consecrated men and women, and lay faithful to read this important document which will help provide pastoral care and strengthen families in the Diocese of Austin. The exhortation is also available in Spanish.

Reflection question

Gospel meditation

Consider using the following meditation for the Fifth Sunday of Easter (April 24):

  • How do you fulfill Jesus' command to “love one another?” Would someone know that you are a Christian by the way you treat others?
  • ¿Cómo cumple usted el mandato de Jesús de "ámense los unos a los otros"? ¿Podría alguien darse cuenta de que usted es Cristiano por la manera en que trata a otros?

Finance Office

Young Adult Ministry

Theology on Tap

Some question how God can be both just and merciful. Others wonder what the term "mercy" means for the everyday Catholic. Father Barry Cuba, parochial vicar at San José Parish, will present a Catholic understanding of grace during this Year of Mercy in a presentation titled "What Mercy Is and Isn’t: Christian Concepts of Justice, Forgiveness and Mercy" at Theology on Tap April 18 at Casa Chapala (9041 Research Blvd., Suite 100, Austin 78758). Fellowship begins at 6 p.m. and the presentation begins at 7 p.m. Contact Jennifer Kodysz or visit here for more information.

  • Por que pongamos al amor Cristiano en primer lugar en nuestras vidas y mostremos mutua compasión...
