Due to the inclement weather we experienced on June 16, the 2015 Lumen Gentium awards were not held. Parishes will present their honorees with the award. Congratulations to all honorees.

Gospel Meditation

Please consider using the following meditation for the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time (July 26):

  • Jesus feeds the crowd with a few loaves of bread and a few fish. In this astonishing miracle we see a hint of the Eucharist to come at the Last Supper. Jesus commands that the “leftovers” be collected so that nothing is wasted. How careful are you to not waste food?
  • Jesús alimenta a la multitud con solo unos panes y unos pocos peces. En este asombroso milagro vemos una señal de la Eucaristía por venir en la Última Cena. Jesús manda que se recojan las "sobras" de modo que nada se desperdicie. ¿Qué tan cuidadoso eres para no desperdiciar la comida?

 

Youth Ministry

Scout Day and Recognition Mass

The Diocesan Committee on Catholic Scouting will host a Scout Day and Recognition Mass on Aug. 15 at Sacred Heart Parish in Austin. Bishop Daniel Garcia will preside at the 9 a.m. Mass. Programs will begin at 10:30 a.m. and end with a closing ceremony at 4:45 p.m. All are invited to attend the 5 p.m. vigil Mass at Sacred Heart. Girls working to earn their Marian Medal will begin their retreat on Aug. 14 at 8 p.m. at Sacred Heart. For information on submitting awards and registration, visit DCCS web page.

Gabriel Project Angels needed

Gabriel Project Angels are volunteers who work with those in need of emotional and spiritual support due to an unplanned pregnancy. There is a need for angels across the diocese. Project Rachel

Project Rachel offers hope and healing to those suffering because of a past abortion. It is a compassionate and confidential ministry that helps women and men experience spiritual and emotional healing within the context of a Christian friendship. Trained volunteers accompany those suffering on their personal journey toward the healing sacrament of reconciliation. To learn more, please join us for an evening of pasta and prayer for this important ministry of mercy on Wednesday, July 15 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the diocesan Pastoral Center in Austin. Vocation Office

Vocations from your parish

The Vocation Office is compiling its annual vocation poster, depicting women and men from our diocese who have entered religious communities. Submissions should include those who were born and raised in the Austin Diocese and who studied or worked here for a number of years. We are searching for aspirants, postulants, novices and temporary professed men and women. Please help us update the vocation poster by providing us their names and contact information or asking them to contact the Julie Gray at (512) 949-2430. All submissions should include the man or woman’s name, the name of the religious community, the stage in formation and home parish in the Austin Diocese, as well as contact information for the person and a headshot photograph. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 1.

 

Stewardship and Development

PDS update

So far 105 parishes have been converted to PDS ChurchOffice. All parishes will be contacted by a diocesan database team member prior to their conversion date with information to prepare for the conversion. The parish will have two weeks to review their data after their conversion. Please see the website at http://www.austindiocese.org/pds for the schedule as well as training sessions. We are also beginning the data synchronization process from the parishes to the diocese. The upcoming conversions this week are Santa Teresa in Bryan and St. Joseph in Marlin. Our date for project completion is on target for the end of July.

EIM Basic and Refresher Workshops

Instructions are provided in case you do not recall how to login to your EIM account. Please contact your parish or Catholic school EIM site administrator if you need assistance or if you do not have Internet access. For general information about EIM workshops, please click here.

EIM Basic and Refresher Workshops are scheduled by the EIM Office, coordinating with the EIM site administrator at parishes, schools and other diocesan agencies. Staff of any site wishing to host a workshop should coordinate with their EIM site administrator. If the site administrator has arranged workshop details with a facilitator, then an email to the EIM office with those details is sufficient to request a workshop; otherwise workshop requests should be made by the site administrator using the Workshop Request Table. EIM site administrators may direct inquiries about EIM workshop scheduling to Emily Hurlimann in the EIM Office at (512) 949-2447.
