The Friday E-Pistle (July 25, 2014)
A message from Bishop Vásquez
- Rev. George Thirumangalam, CMI, pastor at St. Joseph Parish in Cylone and Sts. Cyril and Methodius Mission in Marak, effective July 21, 2014.
- Rev. Ron Feather, administrator at St. Joseph Parish in Marlin and Sacred Heart Mission in Lott, effective July 21, 2014.
Progress continues on the development of our new Pastoral Plan. The team from Essential Conversations is currently writing the first draft of the plan, which will be presented to the Steering Committee and Bishop Vásquez on Aug. 9. In May, the team led the committee in a prayerful reflection process on a PowerPoint presentation, which contained their analysis of the data collected since January. The data included information from Listening Sessions, Focus Groups and, most recently, the surveys. Parish leaders and ministry groups may consider reviewing the slides and reflecting on the data to improve parish ministry. While the Pastoral Plan will offer guidance for parishes and the diocese for the next three to five years, people in ministry could make use of the information before the plan is presented. All information about further progress will continue to be posted on the diocesan website and available through social media networks.
Catholic Night at the Round Rock Express
Catholic Night at the Round Rock Express will be Aug. 18 at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock. Father James Misko, pastor of St. Louis King of France Parish in Austin, will throw the first pitch. All Catholics are invited to attend. Special-priced tickets are $10 and $5. For more information and a fundraising opportunity, see this flier.
Please consider using the following meditation for the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Aug. 10):
- “He went up on the mountain by himself to pray,” this line is easily missed in today’s Gospel about walking on water. Jesus spent a lot of time alone in prayer; especially, before he did something significant. Do you spend time in prayer before making major decisions?
