Ordination and installation of Bishop-elect Sis

The Ordination and Installation Mass for Bishop-elect Michael J. Sis as the sixth Bishop of San Angelo will be Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Junell Center on the campus of Angelo State University, 2235 S. Jackson St., San Angelo, Texas, 76909. All are welcome and tickets are not required.

Pastoral Plan: Input needed

The Diocese of Austin is beginning the process to develop a new Pastoral Plan, an important document that guides the mission and direction of our diocese for the next five years and responds to pastoral needs. To better understand those pastoral needs, the planning team is hosting a series of listening sessions throughout the diocese. These listening sessions are open to everyone and it is my hope that you will take part in this important process. The following listening sessions will be in English:

  • Jan. 21, 7 to 9 p.m., St. Helen Catholic School in Georgetown
  • Jan. 22, 7 to 9 p.m., St. Joseph Parish in Bryan
  • Feb. 5, 7 to 9 p.m., St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Austin
  • Feb. 6, 7 to 9 p.m., Reicher Catholic High School in Waco

Spanish-language listening sessions are being planned for February.

The Diocese of Austin is beginning the process to develop a new Pastoral Plan. This important document will guide the mission and direction of our diocese for the next five years. With your help, it will respond to the pastoral needs of the people in our diocese. To better understand those pastoral needs, the planning team is hosting a series of listening sessions throughout the diocese. The listening sessions are open to everyone and the planning team hopes you can take part in this important process.

The first two Listening Session locations, dates and times are:

Black Catholics

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. annual Mass and reception

The Office of Black Catholics is sponsoring the annual diocesan Martin Luther King Mass on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Parish in Austin. Bishop Curtis Guillory of the Diocese of Beaumont will be the celebrant. There will be a reception after the Mass. Questions may be directed to Johnnie Dorsey at or (512) 217-9616. MLK Blood Drive

The Office of Black Catholics is sponsoring the 11th annual “Blood of the Martyrs” Blood Drive in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The blood donation campaign will be held on Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Blood and Tissue Center van will be parked on Chalmers Street between Eighth & 11th streets on the Campus of Huston-Tillotson University in Austin to accommodate those who want to give blood. Religious Education and Formation

RCIA Workshop

There will be a RCIA workshop focusing on the Scrutinies on Feb. 15 at Cedarbrake Catholic Retreat Center in Belton. This workshop will focus on the connection of the RCIA Scrutinies to the renunciation of sin at Baptism and the process of conversion. The presenter will be Father Ed Koharchik and the cost is $25, which includes lunch. If you have any questions, please call (512) 949-2461.

Pro-Life Activities and Chaste Living

Texas Catholic Pro-Life Day

All are invited to attend Texas Catholic Pro-Life Day on Jan. 25.  The day will include a Prayer Vigil; a living rosary; Mass; lunch, which can be purchased at San José Parish in Austin; March for Life; Rally for Life; and will conclude with a Party for Life.

Pro-Life Day T-Shirts on sale

The official T-shirt for Texas Catholic Pro-Life Day on Jan. 25 can be ordered online.

Pro-Life Mass

The diocesan Pro-Life Mass on Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Center in College Station is to remember and pray for the effects of the 1973 Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion. A second collection will be taken to benefit the Good Samaritan Gabriel Project Life Center in Bryan. After Mass, a reception will be held in the Student Lounge.

Benefit for Our Lady of the Angels Maternity Shelter

The 11th annual Benefit Banquet supporting Our Lady of the Angels Maternity Shelter will be held Jan. 24 from 6-9 p.m. at the Bell County Expo Center in Belton.

Gabriel Project Angels training

Gabriel Project Angels volunteers work with those in need of emotional and spiritual support due to an unplanned pregnancy. There is a need for angels across the diocese. The next Gabriel Project training class will be held at St. Austin Parish in Austin on Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please contact Briana Feiler at (512) 949-2488 for more information.

Team Anderson Mill

The St. Thomas More Respect Life Ministry will meet on the second and last Saturday of each month at 9 a.m. for Adoration at St. Thomas More in Austin and then proceed to pray outside the abortion facility at 9805 Anderson Mill Rd., Austin, TX 78750 from 10-11 a.m. All are welcome to join.

Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM)

Upcoming EIM Basic and Refresher Workshops

EIM Basic and Refresher Workshops are scheduled on a quarterly basis by the EIM Office, coordinating with the EIM site administrator at parishes, schools and other diocesan agencies. Staff of any site wishing to host a workshop must coordinate with their EIM site administrator. The EIM site administrator should make all workshop requests on the Workshop Request Table. Additional workshops will not be added to the EIM workshop calendar unless the EIM Office determines a particular need. EIM site administrators may direct inquiries about EIM workshop scheduling to Emily Hurlimann or Colleen Schiller in the EIM Office at (512) 949-2400.
